How to create a weekly cleaning agenda 1024x768 Weekly Cleaning Plan Update

This is big guys. I mean really big. I have officially made it through two whole weeks with a weekly cleaning plan. Too many times in the past, I’ve tried weekly cleaning plans only to crash, burn and give up with in the first three days. Yet, here I am two whole weeks in and I am actually feeling really good about following this schedule. I may not doing a perfect job every time and I may be skipping things here and there, when I can tell the kids, ok fine, when I’m gonna lose it if I wipe down one more gosh darn thing. Either way the little bit I am doing is more than before and the results are well worth the effort.

Monday- wipe down day

I struggled here last week because the refrigerator was practically a toxic waste land due to spills and mystery foods housed in Tupperware containers. And this week was almost the same exact struggle, however, my goal was to get the fridge completely 100% sparkly clean by the end of the day, even if I had to forgo any and all other tasks. I finally prevailed and the results made me incredibly happy despite a clean fridge being the only thing I had to show for my wipe down Monday.

Tuesday- Errand Day

Last week was tough when I found out the library wasn’t open when I wanted it to be, and it messed up the entire rest of my day. However, this week I planned accordingly, and took the kids directly after nap time, which ended up working out better since they were both well rested and somewhat well behaved. In fact, I only had to toddler wrangle 90% of the time compared to the 99% I’m used to doing. I even managed to venture into the adult isle for .02 seconds before I had to go keep my Son from doing a high dive off of the top of a book case.***

Wednesday- Laundry Day

Laundry day was very uneventful although I did learn a good lesson about being prepared. Basically I need to have the laundry ready to go into the machine first thing in the morning or else I will spend way to much time gathering dirty clothes when I could be actually washing them. Lesson learned, I’ll be better prepared next week.

Thursday- Mirrors, Windows and Dusting Day

I actually manged to get this task 100% completed while my daughter was at school. I was so happy to have the rest of the day to take it easy and play with the kids rather than battle with them in order to find time to finish the job. In addition I was surprised at how little time this took when the windows had just been cleaned a week ago. It barely took me any time since I didn’t have to chip mystery goop of any windows.

Friday- Floors day

This was the only day I feel like I slacked a little. I wasn’t quite able to get my daughters room or my room vacuumed, but I still manged to do all the sweeping, mopping and vacuuming in the kitchen, living room and my son’s room. Which is a lot, compared to what I used to get done prior to having a weekly cleaning plan.

Looks like I missed one dog sized fuzzball

In all it wasn’t too hard this week. I’m so proud of the fact that I’ve held on this long and that I didn’t give in when things got tough. The major difference this time around, is the fact that this is MY cleaning schedule since the many cleaning plans and schedules I’ve tried in the past were created by other people. This time I am working off of something I created and it fits my needs rather than what someone else is telling me my needs are. In addition I’m working really hard not to over do it. Too often I expect myself to be able to get everything on my list absolutely perfect. However, this time, I’m making an effort to do as much as I can and knowing that next week will be easier. Just these two small changes are making a huge difference in my ability to accomplish what I’ve failed to accomplish in the past. It almost makes me kick myself for failing to do this before.

***You think I was serious? I only let him do high dives off of the middle shelves. Come on I’m not that bad of a mom, Sheesh
